This book is about a boy named Eragon who is one of the only dragon riders. He and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel army from the wrath of Galbatorix and must now travel to Ellesmera to continue their training as dragon and rider. There he meets the main weapon the elves have against Galbatorix; an ancient dragon rider that survived the downfall of the riders in earlier years. This rider and his dragon must teach Eragon and Saphira what it means to be dragon and rider. While Eragon is at Ellesmera, Roran and Carvahall are attacked by Galbatorix's army. Meanwhile Galbatorix is planning to march against the varden. Will the varden and Carvahall survive, or will they die because Eragon and Saphira perished also?
